Human Anatomy & Physiology

Course Description

The state of South Dakota requires two or three credits of high school science laboratory classes, depending on the track that you and your child decide to take. If a student is currently enrolled in the "Standard" track then he/she would only need to take two of these classes. In contrast, those who are enrolled in the "Advanced" or "Distinguished" route will need a minimum of three credits of lab science. Note: for those interested in the "South Dakota Opportunities Scholarship" four credits of lab science with one of those being either chemistry and/or physics.

Biology is a prerequisite for human anatomy and physiology. Human anatomy and physiology is the study of vital biochemicals, cellular structure, passive and active transport of molecules across biological membranes, body tissues, water, electrolytes and acid-base balance, excretion of body waste, causes and treatment of disease, growth and development, genetic and its control mechanisms, and each of the various organ systems of the human body.
