Quarter 1 Lesson Plans | The state of South Dakota
requires two or three credits of high school science laboratory classes, depending on
the track that you and your child decide to take. If a student is
currently enrolled in the "Standard" track then he/she would
only need to take two of these classes. In contrast, those who are
enrolled in the "Advanced" or "Distinguished" route
will need a minimum of three credits of lab science. One of those three
credits must be either chemistry or physics. For the students heading
in the engineering and other science related fields, taking physics is a
wise course of action since many state university science programs require
at least some credits of this science.

Note: for those interested in the "South Dakota Opportunities
Scholarship" four credits of lab science are required one of which must
include biology and another that includes either chemistry or physics. Physical science is a prerequisite for physics and it is suggested that students have a solid background in math, especially algebra I, algebra II, and geometry. Physics is the study of motion, vectors, forces, energy, orbital movement, charged particles and the interactions caused by charged particles, and electrical circuits.
